Skills and Improvements

image2.jpg
The photo above is my most improved. Its not just this photo though. I've found that as a I get more experience as a photographer my storytelling ability increases drastically. Sure my image quality gets better through new hardware and technique, but my knowledge of where to stand, what to look for, and how to capture a photo does exponentially more for my work.

2023 Skills and improvements...

I knew coming into this year I would have some big shoes to fill when it came to managing a project the size of a school yearbook. I will say, I was not perfect to start out and I still am not. I've only been formally practicing photojournalism and involved in Yearbook for a little over a year and a half. The thing I love about my position is I never stop learning. I get to help people solve problems and answer questions that I may have never even experienced myself. Each step of the process is a new learning experience for me, and its rewarding that things start to get easier as I do it more and more. Whether its a new camera sign out board or looking over a photo assignment Im always looking forward to continuing to learn, improve my skills and improve the class as a whole.

Skills: Photography - Time and Team management - Leadership - Creative thinking - innovation

Skills

Throughout this semester I learned to be a better photographer and photojournalist

I learned about writing captions, and telling the story of an image through text.

I learned the important photo elements, that set photos apart from others.

I learned how to better my shooting in manual mode, and learn how to make the most out of my camera in difficult shooting situations.

I learned about lenses, and what types are best for certain shoots.

I learned how to work with a team, to get assignments done, and overall produce a part of the yearbook

Most Improved Work

Displayed is my most improved work. In the beginning shooting basketball was difficult because of the low lighting conditions and the overall small amount of space to work with. As I kept going to games, I kept adjusting camera settings and was able to improve my image quality drastically. On the left, seen is a photo that has a dark tint to it, and is slightly grainy because of that. I was able to correct this in the photo on the right by using a lower aperture to let more light into the lens. The framing of the photo on the right is also much better. On the left the subjects body is cut off and there is less background, making the photo less interesting. This is just one of the examples of my improved work from this semester.
